What is the Olfactory Bulb Function?
The olfactory bulb is responsible for olifaction. This is also known as the sense of smell, the sense through which odors are perceived. When a smell is released into the area in which a human is able to smell, the odor dissipates through the nose and activates the olfactory system.
Once an odor is observed it binds to receptors in the nasal cavity and travel through nerve endings to the brain. In the brain the olfactory bulb then analyzes the smells and sends the signals to various parts of the brain responsible for smell identification, memory, and emotion.
Essentially, this is the pathway that connects smell to the numerous feelings, emotions, and physiological reactions that can occur.
